Our Pipe Band was first brought together December 1997 with the efforts of Assistant Fire Chief, Ken Hines. There were several hidden pipers within Central Missouri, unknown to one another until Ken tracked us down. He presented the idea of a Fire Department sponsored Pipe and Drum Band; and needless to say it was accepted by one and all. The rest is history. Assistant Fire Chief / Band Manager Ken Hines, took time out to serve our country with the Coast Guard for a year but he is back with us again.

Presently we are a street band, but what the future may bring, competition - wise; only time will tell. We are venturing into learning Strathspeys and Reels, as a group, and also solos for occasions, such as weddings, funerals, parties, parades, and any other requested function.

Our mission statement is to bring, to all that hear us, the most beautiful sounds from the pipes & drums that we are able to produce. Afterall, we do represent the Celtic peoples and the heritage of the pipes are well established in their history. We are a very transient populas today and any piper/drummer that may leave our midst to step into another band, our hope is for them to have a solid foundation, in not only the Scottish music that we play, but the heritage which the pipes & drums represent.

Over the past five years we have had 20 plus performances per year, some are paid, while others, depending on the occasion, are non-paid. We have played for the last two governors and many other dignitaries at Jefferson City, Missouri's capital. Our most important yearly performance is playing at the Memorial Day weekend Air Show and parade, in Columbia. Our saddest of course is having to pipe for any fallen fireman or police officer.

Being the only pipe and drum band in Central Missouri makes our services very popular. It certainly is a challenge to bring a P&Dband from its grass roots to where we are today. It could not have been accomplished without the total support of all members. Our youngest piper is 11 yrs of age, our oldest, also a piper, is 62. We, at present, are 15 pipers and 5 drummers strong. Only 4 of our members are actually fire personnel, the rest are students, a college professor, a retired attorney, a real Canadian from B.C., a pharmacist, a few homemakers, and a retired claims adjuster. So, we run the same gamut as all pipe bands.
